Ripples Across The Welkin

the moving clouds allow slivers of moon

and sneak peeks of stars,

the welkin waters the autochthons.

drowning inside, while adrift on land,

i peer below, i look away.

the things we sit with,

scanned her lineaments for an answer,

silence like desalination plants

for free-flowing tears.

when the moon rocks gently on the horizon

and I appreciate the process

and thank my lucky stars.

an assemblage of moths tracing

ancient patterns on my kitchen stoep,

worshipping a false god,

sometimes i genuflect too.
