Groundhog Day

the Universe presented me with a contract

on the day you were born

that said we will repeat the same day thousands of times

the same little routines

with the same little outcomes

over and over again

if i were to go back

and sign the contract all over again

i would add a thousand more of those repetitive little days

to get to experience our little interactions again

without the stresses of the outside world

the only thing I would change

is to stipulate

that

based on the hours I worked

i am legally entitled to a lunch break

SL Gilders is a poet based in the Essex, UK, whose work draws inspiration from the pain, beauty and comedy of everyday life. Rooted in themes of motherhood, relationships, and the ordinary moments that often go unnoticed, her poetry tries to capture the emotional depth and humour in what might seem mundane. SL Gilders explores the connections that shape us and the small joys that sustain us. When not writing, she finds happiness in music, adventures and time with loved ones.
