Waking Up

Waking up is hard. (Said no one ever)

Waking up is easy. (Said no one ever)

Waking up is normal. (Said everyone)

Do you understand

The steps?

The steps to waking up?

Because I can’t.

Step one is to remember every other step.

But every other step disappears.

As you wake up, your mind.

Your mind-

You can’t even comprehend it.

Step two is to hope you remember this one.

But this step slips from your grasp.

As you wake up, your hands

Your hand-

You can’t even hang on to it.

I want to know step two.

Because after step two is

A…

A…

I must reach out for it.

The light.

The light of-

and it all goes dark

i want that light

the light

i can only ask for it
