The Certitude of Something More

Stairs, stairs, stairs,
The certitude of something more
Dreams I let go, dreams I untie
Coffee-cream pages left blank
Star-studded galaxies far from my reach
Alas, inspiration is running out,
And words do all but make sense,
No longer dancing in front of my eyes.
In a world demanding numeracy,
I only pretend to understand these rhymes
Yet, like all other prepositions they flee,
Moment by moment, unto thee,
What has been casted upon me?
What has been casted upon me?

I’m Haneen Jawed, a 17-year-old poet and literature enthusiast from Pakistan. I’ve loved words for as long as I can remember, but only recently discovered the power of writing my own. Poetry, for me, is a way to rediscover the self and better understand the human experience. I was a co-author in the anthology A Thousand and One Words, and I hope to keep growing as both a writer and a wanderer of thoughts, emotions, and galaxies.
